The Preston Urdu Forum celebrated “Iqbal day”, the birth date of the eastern poet Allama Iqbal, on Thursday, 11 November 2010 at the campus. The program began with a recitation from the Holy Quran followed by words of appreciation for the poet plus a brief history of poetry by Dr. Haider. Then Dr. Wasim, Department Chair of Islamic Studies, advised the students to grasp the message of Iqbal from his poetry. “Bait Baazi” from Iqbal’s couplets was conducted by the students and was highly praised by the guests and the audience. Chief Guest, Mr. Syed Arshad, the program coordinator of FM Radio and Ms. Tarannum, a poet, distributed prizes to the winners of the Bait Baazi competition and congratulated all the participants of the function. He also praised the standard couplets read by the students. Mr. Syed Sarwar Hussain, the Preston Urdu Forum coordinator, thanked the chief guest and the audience. The event was attended by a number of students and staff members who enjoyed the function immensely.
